Asiatic Lion

This is the type of lion that roamed ancient Israel, clashing with famous figures such as Samson (Judges 14:5) and David (1 Sam 17:34-36).

The Asiatic subspecies features a shorter mane and weighs less than its African cousin. While a typical Asiatic lion weighs over 100 kg, an African lion can tip the scales over 200 kg.

Asiatic lions used to populate large swathes of the Middle East, but now are only found wild in India.
